Through increased urban densities, compact planning and an inventive use of materials, this architect has provided a low-cost yet high-style alternative to the conventional house. Although these forms and materials may at first seem unrelated to residential construction, they no doubt feel right at home in the Victorian tradition of San Francisco painted Ladies.
